Before venturing upon the subject it is pertinent to have a glance at the bowing of courts whether be it small causes court In the vicinity of Bokaro as the beginning and history of any Bar is always related with the creation of courts and the Courts and Bars are concurrent and co-existing.

Earlier Bokaro and Dhanbad District was part of and were under Manbhum District and Purulia was the District Headquarter of Manbhum. The entire region consisting of present Dhanbad Bokaro District was under the jurisdiction of Purulia District Judgeship but after the creation of Dhanbad District in 1956 followed by its District Judgeship the region which was under Baghmara Sub-Division came under Dhanbad District having its headquarter at Dhanbad. After the establishment of Bokaro Steel Plant a Residential Magistrate was sitting at Marafari, (Camp-I) in the year 1975. In June 1979 the Executive Court of Baghmara at Chas Sub-division started functioning at Chas and since 27.06.1983 the sitting of the court of the Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate started at Chas. Thereafter since 1985 the court of Sub-Judge and A.CJ.M. and since 1987 the Camp Court of Addl. District & Session Judge which after sometime converted into permanent court, started functioning at Chas.

Bokaro District Judgeship came into existence on 8th September 1995. Though the District Bokaro of the Jharkhand State was created on 27th June 1991 itself. Bokaro District Judgeship was created by carving out Chas Sub-division of Dhanbad Judgeship and Bermo at Tenughat Sub-division of Giridih Judgeship in the year 1995 as said above. It is worth mentioning here that in the year 1991 Chas Sub-division was created.

In the aforesaid back ground, the root of Bokaro Bar have its existance initially since 1979 when the Baghmara at Chas Sub-division was created and sub-divisional executive court started functioning at Chas. The first election in accordance with the Bye laws of the Chas Bar was held in year 1981-82. In the said election two candidates contested for the post of secretary both got equal votes and a very peculiar situation arises then but later on due to the intervention 8 mediation of the Executive Magistrate, Sri P N. Jha was selected unanimously as secretary and Sri B. N. Singh as President. For the second term Sri Durga Singh Deo was elected secretary, Shyamdeo Sharma as President and for third term Sri Kameshwar Jha was elected President. In the election of year 1987 Sri S. N. Roy was declared won for the post of General Secretary and Sri B. N. Mishra@ Mantu Babu as President Similarly in the year 1994 8 2001 Sri Mallick Chandra Mahto and Sri S. N. Roy were elected President & General Secretary respectively.

In the year 2006 Sri Dhirendra Nath Sharma was elected as General Secretary and Sri R. A. Tiwari as President. In the year 2009 Sri M. K. Srivastava 8 Sri Site Ram Rawani won the election and elected to the post of General Secretary & President. In the year 2015 Sri M. K. Srivastava again won the election for the post of Gent. Secretary & Sri Thakur Katika Nand Singh elected as president.

In the year 2002 (14.01-2002) the Bokaro District Judgeship shifted from Chas to Bokaro Steel City in the new building and at present the Court of Principal District & Seasons Judge including five Districe & Additional Sessions Judge, apart from nine courts of Judicial Magistrates (Sr. Division& Jr. Division), Family Court, Labour Court,, Juvenile Justice Board , District Consumer Forum and other courts are functioning here at Bokaro Steel City.

Now Bokaro District Bar Association has its own building, large campus well rich and equipped Bar Library situated at Camp-II. Bokaro Steel City and the seedling Chas Bar has now become and grown like a tree of banyan in the shape of Bokaro District Bar Association having total number of member Advocates more than one thousand and it is getting strengthened day-by-day and helping in administration of Justice by maintaining and upholding the standards of legal ethics and values.
